Tréadchúram

Aithníonn Coláiste Feirste an tábhacht a bhaineann le tréadchúram maidir lena éifeacht ar shainmheon na scoile.  Féachaimid le hatmaisféar a chruthú ina mothaíonn na daltaí ar a gcompord agus sábháilte:- ina mothaíonn siad go bhfuil tábhacht agus fiúntas mór leo mar dhaoine óga agus ina spreagtar iad le scileanna foghlama agus sóisialta a fhorbairt i dtimpeallacht shlán agus fholláin.

An Córas Tréadchúraim

Óna dteacht isteach ar Choláiste Feirste, tugtar áit do gach dalta i rang foirme lena sainmhúinteoir ainmnithe a amharcfaidh i ndiaidh a leas sóisialta, fisiceach agus intleachtúil.

Faigheann na Múinteoirí Foirme tacaíocht óna gCeann Bliana a bhfuil an fhreagracht deiridh aige / aici maidir le leas gach dalta sa Bhliainghrúpa. Tá na Cinn Bhliana faoi stiúir an Leas-Phríomhoide.

Buaileann na Múinteoirí Foirme lena gcuid daltaí ag tionól ranga ag tús agus deireadh gach lae scoile.  Bíonn tionól Bliana ann gach seachtain fosta leis an Cheann Bliana.

Má bhíonn tuismitheoir nó caomhnóir buartha in am ar bith fána bpáiste iarrtar orthu coinne a dhéanamh leis an Cheann Bliana nó leis an Mhúinteoir Foirme le buarthaí nó fadhbanna a phlé

Tinrimh

Tá Coláiste Feirste ag dúil leis na daltaí bheith poncúil agus patrún rialta tinrimh a chleachtadh.

Is é 98% an sprioc atá againn don tinreamh - .i. gan daltaí níos mó ná 5 lá sa bhliain a chailleadh.

Déanann an Múinteoir Foirme, an Ceann Bhliana agus Oifigeach Tinrimh, ag brath ar an chás, teagbháil le tuismitheoirí na ndaltaí a mbíonn droch-thinreamh acu.

Cosaint Pháistí

Tá stíl chúraim ar leith ag Coláiste Feirste maidir le ceisteanna pearsanta a bhaineann lenár gcuid daltaí agus bímid cúramach agus aireach inár gcleachtais maidir le leas agus sábháilteacht s’acu.

Tá ball foirne (baineann agus fireann) ainmnithe ag an scoil le haire a thabhairt do riachtanais tréadchúraim ar leith agus le fiosrúchán a dhéanamh ar cheisteanna a bhaineann le cosaint pháistí.  Is iad sin Damien Mac Giolla, an Leas-Phríomhoide, agus Mary Grieve, Danielle Ní Riabhaigh agus Beicí Nic Riada. Caithfear agus pléifear le cás ar bith faoi rún agus discréid agus cloífear leis an reachtaíocht chuí i ngach cás.

Mínítear do bhaill foirne an dóigh le haithint má bhíonn aon cineál mí-úsáide ar pháistí ag teacht aníos sa scoil agus sa chás go mbíonn múinteoir imníoch faoi aon cheann de na ceisteanna thuas, cuirfidh sé/sí an buaireamh in iúl don mhúinteoir ainmnithe láithreach.

Tá polasaí níos iomláine ar fáil in oifig na scoile chomh maith le roinnt eile a bhaineann le Tréadchúram, Smacht, Cosaint na bPáistí, agus mar sin de, agus bíonn siadsan ar fáil go réidh.

Cúrsaí Smachta

Tá an smacht riachtanach le teagasc agus foghlaim a éascú agus is cuid riachtanach é den chaidreamh sa seomra ranga agus sa phobal scoile i gcoitinne - caidreamh idir daltaí, múinteoirí agus tuismitheoirí.

Is den riachtanas é go gcaithfí le gach duine le barr urraime agus cúirtéise i gcónaí, agus, go gcúiteofaí an leibhéal céanna urraime agus cúirtéise le cách eile.

Cruthaíodh Polasaí Smachta Choláiste Feirste le:

  • Timpeallacht shlán oibre a éascú, ina gcinnteofaí stiúir éifeachtach na ndaltaí i gcónaí;
  • Comhurraim a spreagadh agus a chothú.

Mar sin, tá gach múinteoir freagrach as an smacht sa seomra ranga - thig seo a chur i bhfeidhm trína chinntiú go mbíonn gach dalta eolach ar an Chód Iompraíochta agus go leanann sé é

Tromaíocht

Cuirtear an Príomhoide ar an eolas faoi gach aon líomhain tromaíochta, déantar fiosrúchán ar an chás go láithreach de réir Pholasaí Frith-Bhulaíochta na Scoile.  Glactar le gach líomhaint tromaíochta go dtí go gcruthaítear a mhalairt.

Is é comh-mheas an bhunchloch faoi gach polasaí scoile, agus teagascann muid seo go láidir trí na gnáthábhair agus sna ranganna OPS.  Baineann an scoil tairbhe as na seirbhísí atá ar fáil ón Bhord Oideachais agus Leabharlainne, an Nasc-Ionad, agus ó ghrúpaí eile, agus muid ag dul i ngleic leis an fhadhb seo.

Pastoral Care

Coláiste Feirste recognises the importance which pastoral care plays in influencing the ethos of our school.  We attempt to create an atmosphere in which the pupils feel safe:- where they feel valuable and worthwhile as individuals and where they are encouraged to grow in both learning and social skills in a safe, healthy environment.

The Pastoral Care System

On their entry to Coláiste Feirste, each pupil is allocated a place in a form class with a teacher especially assigned to look after their social, physical and intellectual well being.

These form teachers are supported by a Head of Year who has the ultimate responsibility for the welfare of every child in his Year Group

Every morning and afternoon Form Teachers meet with their pupils in class assembly at the beginning and at the end of the school day.  There is also a Year Group assembly every week.

A range of policies to do with Pastoral Care, Child Protection, Discipline, Bullying, Drugs etc are all readily available within the school.

Attendance

Coláiste Feirste expects all students to be punctual and to have a regular pattern of attendance.

Our target for attendance is 98% - not more than 5 days annually should be missed by any pupil.

The Form Teacher, Year Head or Attendance Officer, depending on the case, contacts the parents of students whose attendance is unsatisfactory.

Child Protection

Coláiste Feirste adopts a particular caring style in relation to personal matters concerning our pupils and exercises caution and attention regarding their well being and safety.

The designated teachers within Coláiste Feirste for Child Protection and Pastoral Care are Damien Mac Giolla, (Vice Principal) and Brenda Uí Chléirigh.  Any case will be treated and dealt with in strict confidence and child protection issuse will be dealt with within the appropriate legislative framework

All members of staff are made aware of how to recognise the signs indicating any form of child abuse and should he/she have any concerns regarding a student, the designated teacher will be informed immediatly.

Teachers are not obliged to seek any information from parents / guardians or from any other family member.

Complete and detailed policies concerning Pastoral Care and Child Protection are available form the school office.

Discipline

Discipline is essential to facilitate the teaching and learning process and is a necessary component of relationships within the classroom and within the general school community - in the main, relationships between Pupils, Teachers, and Parents.

It is imperative that each person is treated with the utmost respect and courtesy at all times, and, in return, affords the same level of respect and courtesy to all others.

Coláiste Feirste’s Discipline Policy is designed:

  • to facilitate a secure working environment, in which effective supervision of pupils is assured at all times; and

  • to nurture mutual respect.

Consequently each teacher is responsible for discipline within the classroom - this may be effected by ensuring that each pupil is informed about, and follows, the Behaviour Code which was developed not only for the smooth functioning of the school but also for the pastoral care of each of the pupils.

Bullying

The Principal is informed of any allegation of bullying and it is immediately investigated according to the School’s Anti-Bullying Policy.  Every allegation of bullying is regarded as fact until proven otherwise.

Mutual respect is the cornerstone of all our policies, and we teach this strong anti-bullying message through the normal subjects and in the PSE classes.  The school benefits greatly from the services available from the Education and Library Board, The Link Centre, and other groups, in our effort to tackle this issue.
